is it? I hope the better team wins.

hey, only three boards anymore for you - chill life here at !

how much vacation days do you have with your job?
I know you Americans are rather weird with your fixation on just work, no free time and no health care

yep, no temp assignment for me yet, hopefully soon though. sorta chill, couples has tons of threads and I post on most of them so it's like three full pages of my posts.

I actually don't know that yet. but I can put in requests for days off as long as it's two weeks ahead.

tell me about it, it's crazy how much people work sometimes. I like my free time more than working all the time. I do like to work though, it gives me something to look forward to. what's your healthcare like? do you have universal? I really wish we did.

being a mod at Couples sounds stressful/busy

I think most people prefer their free time over working all the time
yeah, we have universal healthcare which is really wonderful (especially the more I hear about your system), it is scary to think about not daring to go to a doctor/Hospital out of fear of being in huge debt because of it

it kinda is but I like it.

yea, I think so too. only weird people like to work all the time.

yea, I used to be in debt from hospital visits, luckily they are all paid off now but it was crazy how much money I owed, it took years to get off.

I don't know why people are so scared of universal healthcare here.

are the wait times to see a doctor long cause I know that's one thing people say here.

you mean when it's not an emergency?
it depends, when I make my annual appointment wit my dentist, it can be that I have to wait 3 months for the next one or it can be in 3 weeks ... but that is just a check up, nothing hurts
if I am in pain, I go to the doctor, I might have to wait a few hours till he is done with the other patients and has time for me but I can get help on the same day
... from experience, I know, that when I look close to fainting/death, I will be seen/taken care of within minutes

ETA:
to clarify, I had to stay in hospital three times so far
1) a slight concussion - had to stay for two nights just to be sure it was nothing else/more
2) a life threatening operation and staying for aabout 4 days in the hospital (I was operated about 2 hours after I visited my doctor)
3) another big operation, not life threatening, having to stay in the hospital for a week (I knew about the operation having to be done about 2 months before it took place)
and each and every time, I only had to pay about 10 $ for each day I was in the hospital! ... so, less than 100
visiting my doctor/dentist/etc isn't me costing anything either

why is it so cheap?
because every month, I have to pay health insurance - all in all, it is about 40 % of my income before taxes - half of that, I have to pay, the other half, my employer is paying for me and that is not just my job, that is how it is for everyone, no matter the job
so, when you make € 2.000,00/month before taxes, you have to pay about € 400,00 for health insurance and another ... uh, lets say € 150 income tax, so you only get € 1.450,00 cash but you certainly won't be broke when you are sick

yea, that's what I meant.

thanks for explaining it all to me.

that sounds much better then our healthcare. I'd much rather pay higher taxes so everyone can get insurance.

from what I gathered, you guys have to pay a lot more for health insurance than we anyway, you just have to take care of it yourself instead of it being automatically done by your employer/the government

basically, right now I'm paying 50 dollars a month for dental/vision insurance but I still have to pay some money out of pocket for every visit which could be quite a lot.

my health insurance is a couple hundred a month, don't know how much I have to pay every visit since I haven't been to the doctor yet.

your employer will give it to you but only if you work 40 hours a week so you have to be full time to get benefits which sucks for the people who can't work full time.

so, you pay as much as I do already and yet still have to pay more, maybe even a lot more, when you need a doctor/hospital, don't you?
